Leadership Development

SFYC has a unique twist on leadership development that empowers youth from different backgrounds and levels to make positive contributions to society. This model is flexible enough to meet the youth where they are at in life and build onto their individual leadership skills in a group setting. Empowered youth makes a difference, has a voice, and displays strong values of self and others.  Each leadership team uses The Search Institute's 40 Development Assets curriculum.

Asset Team
A youth-driven group, the Asset Team's goal is to promote community building among various ethnic groups in the High Point Community. Asset Team members receive ongoing training in youth leadership and community building focused on addressing diverse issues. The Asset Team continually seeks new young leaders to be involved in its projects.

Students Against Violence Everywhere (SAVE)
Team SAVE addresses violence prevention issues within the White Center area.  Youth receive ongoing training in youth leadership and community building. SAVE's primary work is Operation Storefront, a project seeking removal of storefront advertisements of tobacco and alcohol in White Center and organizing other community improvements. The Metropolitan King County Council recognized Operation Storefront as King County health heroes in June 2007. Activities also include community street cleanups and gang graffiti cleanups.  The group meets three days per week at the White Center office.
