SFYC's After School Program
SFYC's After School Program is designed to address key academic needs and coordinate access to other SFYC services and programs. Youth who initially come in for tutoring and homework assistance may join our other academic, leadership, and cultural activities. Those who need extra assistance can receive case management and additional services. Once youth are enrolled in our activities, we continue to monitor their academic performance and strongly encourage them to bring their homework daily. By hosting a variety of services, SFYC can identify youth's needs, provide appropriate and timely interventions, increase academic achievement, and nurture youth to become productive, contributing members of the community.
Motivating Youth to Succeed in Academics (MYSA) Program
MYSA is the hub of SFYC's after school programs. It provides tutoring and
homework assistance to middle school and high school youth and to youth who are preparing for the WASL and GED. Staff and volunteers are available daily from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. to assist youth in a variety of subjects. In addition to helping with homework, we provide an environment that rewards academic success and strives to create a passion for learning in every individual.
MYSA also has support through dedicated case management services (see Case
Management Services).
Technology Program
Knowledge of technology is a crucial component of academic success for today's youth. Youth in our leadership development, peer groups, and other regular activities use
SFYC's and local computer labs to coordinate and implement their projects as
well as complete homework and additional enrichment activities.
Asset Team (Promoting Assets Across Cultures) A youth-driven group, the Asset Team's goal is to promote community building among various ethnic groups in the High Point Community. Asset Team members receive ongoing training in youth leadership and community building focused on addressing diverse issues. The Asset Team continually seeks new young leaders to be involved in its numerous year-long projects.
Tuesday 4:00-5:00pm

Mentoring
As part of their development as leaders, we introduce our youth to positive role modeling and mentoring. In the Youth Leading Youth Project, our teenage leaders assist the After-School Program for 6-12 year olds both in regular meetings and in special service projects. By taking on the role of a mentor to younger members of the community, our youth bring the leadership qualities they discuss in their meetings to the world in which they live.
Peer Groups
Young Women's Group: Young Women's Group is just as it sounds - a group exclusively for girls ages 13-18 to discuss issues related to young women. The group plans and completes community service projects, hosts guest speakers, promotes healthy lifestyles and relationships, and organizes field trips. You will find a group of young women ready to take charge of their lives, become leaders in building better communities, and create lasting friendships.
Thursday 3:30-6:00pm
Young Men's Group: A collection of culturally diverse young men, ages 14-22, meet weekly to discuss issues young men face in their everyday lives. The young men aim to be advocates for themselves and their community by engaging in dialogue, cultivating respect for self and others, developing self-discipline, and enhancing personal growth with the intent of being assets to the community.
Monday 4:00-5:00pm
