MYLE's Holiday Giving

SFYC's Mien Youth
Leadership and Empowerment (MYLE) members helped
165 Mien and Lao families in southeast Seattle receive gift bags
during the December holiday season. MYLE members assessed
families for number of children and low income status with help
from the Iu-Mien Association of the State of Washington and
previous MYLE projects involving younger youth.
Members contacted
Toys for Tots (U.S. Marine Corps) to organize donations. The
toys were collected, brought to SFYC, wrapped, and categorized
by ages. Gift bags were handed out to the families on a Saturday
afternoon.

SFYC Youth Attend National Conference:
Seattle-King County's Food &
Fitness Initiative
In March, two of SFYC's youth joined 50 teens and 20 adults
from nine sites nationwide for a three-day Youth Networking and
Training Conference in Tucson, Arizona. It served as the launch
for the youth engagement dimension of Food and Fitness, a
multi-year initiative supported by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.
The goal of the Initiative is to create community environments
that support access to fresh, locally grown healthy affordable
food and safe environments for activity and play.
Representing youth of Seattle-King County, Emma Henderson and
Danny Huang participated in workshops and team planning sessions
to learn about the Food and Fitness Initiative, develop a
collective vision and mission and form a support adult-youth
network. Click
