About Us

Mission

SafeFutures Youth Center's (SFYC) mission is to create a caring extended family atmosphere at a center that provides the highest quality services, in order to fully develop the potential of everyone who enters through our doors.

SFYC is dedicated to helping youth and their families stay focused on their future by offering a variety of engaging programs and activities. We coordinate these daily services and activities so that young people may build:

positive self-identity and self-awareness;
positive relationships and values to the community;
positive individual and peer relationships, behaviors, and values;
positive family interaction and communication skills;
pro-social, academic and employable skills; and
youth leadership and community service.

These objectives are accomplished by offering the following services:

1) individual, family and peer counseling,
2) crisis intervention,
3) home visits and parent workshops,
4) school, juvenile justice, and other advocacy services,
5) referral to other services (including health, mental health, alcohol and drug services),
6) homework assistance, academic skill building and employment services,
7) culture and gender specific projects, field trips, recreation, community service and leadership development projects, and
8) community organizing and technical support to emerging communities.

History

SFYC was founded in June 1996 as a City of Seattle Human Services Department-operated program targeting at-risk Southeast Asian youth and families. The Center became a non-profit organization in January 2000, and expanded its services to better serve the community, including High Point's East African, African-American, Latino, Pacific Islander, and other populations. SFYC is the second-largest youth agency located in Southwest Seattle, Washington. up picture
